Schedule Pick Up & Orientation
PLEASE NOTE THE NEW TIME-We had to make a slight change in the time do to a scheduling conflict with another school event in the county. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause!
On behalf of the entire staff of Canton Middle School, I am happy to welcome you back for the 2017-2018 school year. It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over and we are about to being a new school year. The first day of school will be on Tuesday, August 22nd at 7:55 am. Tuesday the 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd will both be a 12:30 dismissal.
We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our students can achieve to their highest potential. We recognize that in order for your child to be successful, our children need support from both home and school. Our teaching staff is excited to partner with you this year to make sure that your child received the best education possible. It is a parents enthusiasm, support, and involvement that inspire children to do their best; and a teacher’s ability to help them learn.
To help start this partnership this year, we are going to start the year off with an Open House. On Thursday, August the 17th beginning at 4:00 until 4:30 parents will need to report to the A building gym to pick up schedules then report to the auditorium for a brief informational meeting beginning at 4:30pm. After this meeting you will be dismissed to your child’s classes; every 20 minutes you will rotate through the remainder of your child’s three core classes. During this rotation you and your child will meet their core teachers and learn together the expectations of your child’s classrooms. This is a special time that staff has set aside to provide information to everyone at one time. This joint effort from staff and parents will help student’s see that both their parents and educators are working together to support them. This is your opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and have a better understanding of Canton Middle School’s processes that are in place this year to help your child be as successful in their education.
Please note: In order to help staff get prepared for the start of the school year, this orientation will be the only time schedules will be given out. Parents, please be prepared to stay though the entire meeting in homeroom to receive their child’s schedule. The entire meeting and rotation should only take about an hour and a half; which is only a small amount of time to insure your child’s success this year.
If you are unable to attend this orientation or make plans for someone else to bring your child, your child should report first thing on the B Building gym, where staff will give them their schedule and assist them to their classes.
We encourage each parent and guardian to keep open communication with the school and let us know if we can assist your child in any way to make their school year at CMS a successful one.
We look forwards to seeing you soon,
Todd Barbee, Principal
Bonnie Coleman, Assistant Principal
